Design Development Studio

The project incorporates a mixed-use theater, art, gallery, and molecular gastronomy center located in the Chelsea, New York City district along the highline. The intent is to create cohesion of a central focus atrium with three main programmatic elements to allow for unique visual and spatial experiences for the users. There is a distinction between interior and exterior conditions, as well as a middle ground underneath the shroud. The atrium withholds the shroud in which it brings together three main volumes of program.

The form is maintained through the use of cast in place concrete and a steel open web joist system. The shroud is a rib system in which members are bolted together and glass panels are inset within it. The program is meant to be circulated in a processional manner vertically moving throughout the program. The entrance is revealed after one bends the corner to be introduced to the shroud structure.
