History Theory Seminar
How is temporary space designed in contemporary Architecture? This course used historical precedent and architectural theory to re-image a possible discourse between the past and present. Some questions posed were: What merits does temporary architecture have as a practical construction? How does religion and tradition influence the senses and spaces we create? How does abstraction and minimalism influence spatial procession? How can modular materials and digital fabrication inform interesting volumes?
Temporary space is created for a variety of different purposes. These intentions inherently inform the design, construction, materials, and space. Whether we record the past, inform the future, create shelter, or invoke emotion, temporary space can bridge boundaries between Architecture and Art.
For the final project each student was to curate an exhibit for the special exhibits floor of the NY MoMa. My exhibit surrounded the serpentine pavilions and their effects on the architectural discourse.
